Rockstar and Take-Two Keep Reaffirming GTA 6's November 19 Date as Launch Approaches

Take-Two and Rockstar have continued to reaffirm that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on November 19, 2026, adding a new voice to the chorus of reassurances. CEO Strauss Zelnick put the date in writing in a letter to shareholders as part of a preliminary proxy statement filed with the SEC on July 17, 2026, a more legally deliberate signal than a casual remark since misstatements in SEC filings carry real consequences. Now Rockstar developer Rob Nelson has echoed that confidence from the development side, telling Japanese outlet Famitsu the game “will definitely be released” on schedule barring anything unforeseen, when directly asked about the possibility of another delay.

The reassurances keep coming because GTA 6 has already slipped twice, first from a fall 2025 target to May 2026, then to the current November 19 date, leaving fans understandably wary whenever the launch window comes up. Zelnick’s SEC letter framed the fiscal year containing the launch as a potential “major inflection point” for Take-Two, since the release falls roughly mid-year and could make it the company’s best-ever year for net bookings. Nelson’s comments mark the first time someone from Rockstar’s development side, rather than Take-Two’s corporate or investor-relations side, has directly addressed delay fears this close to launch.

Much of the earlier uncertainty around marketing has since been resolved. Rockstar aired its 27-minute “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look” special on Netflix in late August, giving the public its first substantial gameplay footage after years of leaks and speculation, following pre-orders that opened in late June alongside cover art and screenshots. With roughly two months left before launch, attention has shifted to whether Rockstar will show more of the game before release, something Nelson’s statement doesn’t confirm but which many expect given the marketing cadence Take-Two has used so far.

Separately, reports have suggested GTA 6 could miss eligibility for The Game Awards 2026 on a technicality, despite being the presumptive favorite for Game of the Year, likely because the show’s submission cutoff falls before the November 19 release. If accurate, that would be a notable wrinkle for a title widely expected to dominate any awards conversation it’s eligible for.

Taken together, the pattern remains consistent: reassurances about the date now come from formal filings, investor calls, and the development team itself, rather than leaks or rumors. Rockstar has offered similar confidence before prior delays were eventually announced, so this is reassurance rather than a guarantee, but coming so close to launch and paired with the Extended Look special, it’s a reasonably strong signal that a third delay remains unlikely.
