GTA 6 Pre-Orders Climb to 4.6 Million, Nearly $450 Million in Sales So Far

New tracking data from analytics firm Sensor Tower shows Grand Theft Auto VI’s pre-order numbers continuing to climb sharply just under three months before its November 19 launch. As of an August 28 update, Sensor Tower estimates the game has racked up roughly 4.6 million pre-orders across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, up from an earlier estimate of 4.38 million, translating to around 446 million dollars in estimated gross revenue net of returns.

The most striking detail in the data is the edition split. Sensor Tower estimates that nearly 90 percent of buyers are opting for the 99.99 dollar Ultimate Edition rather than the 79.99 dollar standard version, which the firm calls an unusually high premium-edition mix compared with typical AAA launches. Platform-wise, PlayStation is doing the bulk of the business, accounting for roughly 77 percent of pre-orders versus 23 percent on Xbox, working out to about 3.38 million PS5 pre-orders against 1 million on Xbox.

Notably, this snapshot was taken before Rockstar’s extended gameplay look aired via Netflix on August 27, which was made widely available on YouTube and social platforms a few hours later. Sensor Tower has indicated it plans to release updated figures this coming weekend, which should show whether that broadcast gave pre-orders another bump. This builds on earlier reporting from Take-Two’s fiscal first-quarter earnings call, where CEO Strauss Zelnick described the initial five days of pre-orders opened in late June as having an exceptional start, and separate analysis from Newzoo that had already called it the strongest pre-order campaign on record based on the first week of digital spending alone.

Taken together, the trend line suggests pre-order momentum has not slowed since launch of sales in June, and the heavy skew toward the pricier Ultimate Edition is a new wrinkle worth watching as Rockstar heads into its final marketing push before the November 19 release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
